Ziwi peak samples on the way!

Saya looking at the kitty
Well thanks to Conker's owner's blog I asked for sample of their product to try.

I like Ziwi peak's ingredients looks great and worth feeding either for treat or as diet.

I don't think I'd switch Saya to full on it, but it'd make good snack, treat, or meal when I got camping or traveling etc.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yummy turkey breast
                                Happy ThanksGiving!
I hope everyone had a good Thanks giving! Picture above is of Saya's thanksgiving meal last year a turkey breast and back it lasted her for a long time.

This year I didn't get her one never found good deal on one which was not enhanced.. :\
Coarse I wasn't really looking for any turkey deals..

We went shopping for a bit got some coffee at the butcher shop only place that sells Community Coffee. A brand of coffee from Louisiana I love it. Sadly no CC stores here.. I prefer their coffee over starbucks their mochasippi are so yummy!

Anyways I always check meat section because I like their selection and sometimes they have odd and ends stuff normal stores don't like raw smelt, lamb heart, lamb kidney a container of just chicken gizzards or just hearts not just mixed up tray.

Walmart by me actually sells raw smelt, but I didn't know till now.

Well at the meat section they had nice deal buy one get one free on packs of turkey parts I got three bags of turkey necks two came with one gizzard each, two came with liver and two came with some liver.

I got a pack of turkey wings too and four or six of turkey livers forgot how much each pack weighed the pack of wing came with something with bone in it and one of the necks pack had a bit of turkey backs too.

I'm so excited! I portioned out the necks, wings, gizzards, heart and tomorrow I'm portioning out the livers going to be one messy day.

Saya loves the turkey livers she had a bit of turkey liver, heart, and cooked turkey meat, cranberries, blue berries and brocolli no salt or sugar in it..

If I can manage room in the freezer I might buy out the rest of the wings and some livers. I don't get turkey much because it's never on good deal besides thanksgiving and would be a yummy variety for bone in meals..

Saya wanted more for her dinner, but she needs save room for tomorrow.. lol

Bella wasn't fond of the turkey liver I hope she'll grow to like it soon if not I can mix it in her kibble she'll probably eat the liver like that odd since she likes pork, chicken, deer, beef, and bison liver.. Silly boxer.

I never thought she'd ever refuse food. So far she is not fond of quail/pheasant/duck not sure it was either of those, caned crab and now turkey liver..

Ah well Saya used to hate tongue, heart and kidney. Now she loves those three things and eats it frozen or thawed.

Santa's favorite
Hope everyone had good time and was safe on black Friday! My mom got the dogs a pack of loofa dogs, two hedgehog dog toys, and the turkey parts.

The toys are for Christmas they got one of the loofa now and others for if Bella destroys the first.

Just remember it can be stressful and dangerous for pets around Holidays, cooked turkey, Christmas lights, cord, tree, ornaments, tinsel, guests coming in and out of house leaving opportunities to door bolt etc.

Try to keep Things positive for the pups and if you got guests comming be sure they know to not leave door to outside open for too long and not to give human food..

I'm all for giving a dog yummy treat on top of kibble, but be sure it's OK for the dog. mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes are yummy for dogs be sure they're not sweetened with brown sugar I think walnuts are not good for dogs I might be wrong.

Turkey is yummy, but be sure to not give cooked bone to the dog if you want to you can cook the dog some ground turkey, boneless turkey and put it on the kibble. I cooked some turkey meat added bit of cranberries and blueberries blended together and it looks just like caned dog food, but home made!

Plain cooked meat is fine I like add in blue berries and cranberries because dogs like them.

If you feed raw giving raw turkey ground, boneless, feet, wings, breast, back, neck or drumstick are yummy things for dogs. Some dogs seem have issue with turkey bones, but allowing them to stripe the meat is good exercise.

Saya handles the breast, back, and necks just fine she eats every bone she is 20lb, but it's know thy dog thing.

Pumpkin is a yummy kibble topper be sure to get just pumpkin kind not pie filling or buy a pumpkin and boil it up yourself and blind it together.

Saya and Bella loves pumpkin.

Careful of onions and careful of turkey that's enhanced the extra sodium can cause loose poop.

Never leave dog unattended while eating raw anything has risk I know dogs who died from kibble, toy, ground meat etc.

Saya has been raw fed for two almost three years so far no issues, but I still watch her she does fine, but never know.

Once I get the liver all weighed up, portioned and frozen I'll get a picture of the yummy treats. :)

Random talk

Shiba inu loves fall and winter
I really love this picture I look at it and it shows what I like about fall. Leaves!

Only downside ticks are coming back seems they don't like the dry heat, but now it's getting cooler and wet they're coming back.

I will just have to check Saya even more then usual! I put tick/flea stuff on her, but I still don't trust it plus I feel better if I can get it off right after our walks.. I also check before bed. Crazy, but ah well Saya has learned to tolerate the handling.

Saya after she is done blowing her coat
With this picture it's neat seeing how thin she looks her neck shows more and well now she has her under coat which makes her neck look much thicker then what it is.

She is slowly starting to shed she'll probably be done by the time it gets really cold.

Here's a interesting article that goes into about post traumatic stress for dogs that come from puppy mills. Puppy mills leave lasting emotional scars, study finds.

Thanks to midranger4 from shiba inu forums.

I've never owned a puppy mill dog  so can't say for sure on my experiences, but it does make sense.

It also makes sense even when the mill is clean the dog still suffers mentally because even though where it lives is clean and it has food water and vet care the dog still has many needs not being met.

They are still in small living conditions, no exercise except for pacing in the cage or spinning in circle, and no socialization or human interactions.

Even if a mill is clean that doesn't make it right how on earth is a breeder able to give the dog a healthy happy life with they own 50 or 200 dogs or so!

Just doesn't seem right. I hope one day in the future mills will be shut down there's too many dogs in the shelter to get one from a mill.

If you want one from a breeder don't be impatient take your time researching the breeder and meeting them and their dogs.

No puppy mill get their puppies from good breeder because who in right mind would send their puppies off to some store to be sold to people they don't even know!

A good breeder should care for their dogs, should only have an amount they can take care of without cutting corners, they should feed their dogs decent quaility kibble, home cooked diet or raw diet.

Health testing is important too.

A good breeder doesn't always have to show their dog it's a plus though, but some breeders work their dogs through agility, nose work, hunting and so on. depending on the breed.

One shouldn't rush into things it might be a great idea at the time, but later you might regret it.

Initial price from a good breeder can be high sometimes, but in the end it usually works out for the better because a good breeder who puts in time to socialize and expose their puppies to different things before they go to their homes makes a difference.

Coarse the breeder selling the dog for highest price is not always better either. If you can try to visit them yourself to see how they do things and ask as many questions as you want to.

The breeder should ask you questions too because you might bring home one of their pups so the breeder will want to be sure your ready for a boxer, shiba, akita, husky, lab or whatever breed you are getting..

I hope I covered everything and sorry if it's written sloppy.. :\

Benefits of coconut oil?

Coconut oil
I have been reading different articles and posts made by dog owners about coconut oil it supposed to be really good for dogs and humans. I decided to try it got one from walmart it's organic and virgin all that stuff.

It's best to get the cold pressed, unrefined, virgin and ideally, organic oil.

Brands that contain hexane is not good because it's a chemical used in mechanical extraction process I'm not sure why, but I prefer the cold pressed and organic is always good..

The one I bought is from walmart it's $10 forgot how much it had, but I tried a little bit of it and it tasted good had a hint of coconut in it. The one at walmart I found in the vitamin section.

Here's a few links with benefits of coconut oil
Coconut oil - All is Well

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mercola/coconut-oil-benefits_b_821453.html?

Nice video on the benefit of coconut oil

E how What Are the Benefits of Coconut Oil for Dogs?

The Health Benefits Of Coconut Oil

http://www.natural-dog-health-remedies.com/coconut-oil-benefits.html

Apparently can be used as toothpaste on your dogs toothbrush, it improves digestion and nutrient absorption, helps control body and breath odor, aids healing of digestive disorders like inflammatory bowel syndrome and colitis, contains powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal agents that prevent infection and disease, prevents and treats yeast and fungal infections, including candida, promotes normal thyroid function, helps prevent or control diabetes, aids in arthritis relief, reduces allergic reactions, improves skin health and hair condition, disinfects cuts and promotes wound healing, and is an antioxidant, 50 times more potent than Vitamin E

According to this site and few others.

"Dogs usually like the taste of coconut oil, so it can be added to their food at any meal. Some dog parents just let their dogs lick the oil off from a spoon. How much coconut oil to give to a dog depends on the size and health condition of the dog, As a general guideline, give about 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight per day. However, remember not to start with the suggested amount. You need to add coconut oil to your dog's diet a little at a time in divided doses. Because coconut oil kills harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi, the burden of removing dead organisms can trigger symptoms of detoxification. Too much coconut oil at a time may also cause diarrhea and greasy stools in dogs. As a start, try giving 1/4 teaspoon/day for small dogs or puppies and 1 teaspoon for large dogs, and gradually increase the amount every few days. Reduce the amount if your dog has diarrhea."

Here is Dr. Karen Becker video on coconut oil.

I'm not sure if the benefits is true or not, but worth a shot. Saya likes the taste and coarse Bella likes anything I give to her.

I plan to slowly work up both dogs and myself to the amount we need..

I'll probably use it for fruit smoothies for myself. Saya ate it off my finger with no issue sniffed it for a second and then licked it right up usually it takes her longer to like new things.

I plan to buy the Nutiva brand to try next seems good for the price.

nutiva coconut oil from amazon

The Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, 29-Ounce Jars (Pack of 2) seems to be a good price for amount you get..

I found the one in walmart in the vitamin section and I believe GNC has it probably any vitamin shop or health food store will have it.

Just be sure it's the virgin, organic and unrefined kind. Refined kind might have chlorine and hexane.

I rather get the unrefined kind better be safe then sorry.

I'll post more if I find anything different from adding this to me and the dogs diet..

Spectrum naturals is another brand someone on the dog forum I go to use and it seems like good brand too.

I guess any brand is good as long as it's the right kind.

I'll be sure to slowly introduce it to see how it goes.

I might try making brownies with it or a stir fry might be good.

I'm not saying to go out and buy coconut oil and give to your dog I'm just writing this because I found it interesting.

Saya only gets vitamin E twice a week, cranimal very berry and vibe every day and sometimes I skip a day, but I try to give it every day.

She doesn't get fish oil because Saya gets raw smelt, saury, and caned sardines, mackerel and salmon she also gets raw mackerel sometimes, but I haven't gotten any more right now.

So I feel she is fine and don't need fish or salmon oil supplemented.

I plan to try this coconut oil to see how it goes.

I'm not sure if coconut oil would replace fish oil? I know they both have different vitamins and minerals or whatever so I'd probably give one one day and one the other or something like that I wouldn't replace one for the other.

The coconut flakes in backing section is most likely not good for dogs has sugar added to it. I'm sure health food places have coconut flakes natural and not sugar added.
I plan to also try Green Lipped Mussel Powder supposed to be good for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Bursitis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Sports Related Injuries, Lyme Disease, Inflammatory Skin Conditions, and Connective Tissue Repair.

I got this info from hare-today.com website they recently just started carrying this.

I think any health food place would sell it and human grade would be fine coarse I'll check to be sure.

I plan to check it out soon to see if they got it.

I think this would also be a good supplement for Saya.

She is actually doing much better energy and health wise and she seems to be even spunkier and more happy lately.

Well before she was happy, but it seems she is even more playful. Maybe it's the coming of fall and winter that got her so energized over it.

Well I'm off to bed I'll be sure to say if I notice anything with her fur, teeth or whatever.
Saya says"Good night and hurry up and turn the lights off!

I added this link to the whole dog journal with info on coconut oil pretty much same info..

Do shiba inu shed?

Saya's wig
I always get asked do shiba shed or how much do they shed. I really need to print these pictures out to show people asking these questions. lol

This is Saya's coat blow in spring it's her winter coat so it's a lot of fur.
I kept the blown fur after each brushing in a ziplock bag and saved it. OMG It's soft who knows I might have it made into yarn.

My mom is good at knitting so she could knit me a shiba scarf. :D

Coarse I dunno if this is worthy of making yarn I'm sure it needs be a certain length I dunno the details.
Saya before I added the fur.

Wolfdog stud ad

 http://www.domesticsale.com/classifieds/a591200.html
I have a wolf dog up for studding. hes a nice boy. hes proven. hes timber wolf and chow. hes lines come from debbies dream in harrah, ok. Hes throws the most beautiful puppies. they are more on the fluffier side due to the chow which makes them even cuter. our last litter sold before they were born. for more info please feel free to contact me. we do charge a stud fee.

I go to a wolf dog forum I don't think I'll ever own one, but I like looking at the pictures of them and learning about their behavior.. Well The famous owner on dogster is also on this wolf dog forum.

Many times people have told her that her dog looks more like a Chow/GSD or Chow/Akita mix not wolf dog and they've said many times to not breed him anymore. >.<

Coarse she still has stud service going on still breeding shiba inu.

Sorry just because your dog supposivly acts wolfish doesn't make it a wolf dog plenty of husky, malamutes, and other spitz breeds have similar behavior.

Saya loves to dig on blankets, dirt, sand and fleece jacket
I mean even if the dog had some minimal wolf in him it's not enough to even call him low content wolf dog. Sadly some people probably believe this person I mean look at the multiple husky or husky mix pups being sold as wolfdogs..

Sadly you can't change everyone or fix the issues in the world.

There's so many lies and deceit with this person it makes me crazy.

I was hoping directing this person to a wolf dog forum so she can post pictures and get it from wolf dog owner she might believe them, but nope she still thinks it.

Saya and Bella got some Goose to eat!

Saya at top of stairs waiting for her next orders
Well my dad got some free goose boneless breast meat, one whole goose not whole as in organs, head and feathers more like rotisserie style..

He also got a small quail or some type of pheasant or something.

I divided it all up so Saya gets 28oz of it and Bella gets 35oz of it all.  I might give Bella a bit more of Saya's share since Saya always get raw anyways..

Bella gets the breast part of the goose, some boneless goose meat, the quail which I put a piece of boneless goose in it.

Saya got the goose's back and it had a little of it's neck too and she gets some boneless meat.

The goose is Canada goose his boss hunts and gave it to my dad for free. Which is nice.

The goose should last Saya for 5 or 7days and Bella 4 or 5 days. I plan to stretch it out and feed other things like heart, tongue, ground beef and bone in pork for Bella and Saya she'll get it once a week or every so often.

Dad made gumbo with it he had some gumbo sausage from last time we went to Louisiana he also put some pork sausage in it. Too bad our local butcher doesn't make good sausage. >.<
Dad plans to hunt a deer this year so I might have to buy Saya her own chest freezer because no weigh we can fit all the meat in the freezer we have now with all of Saya's food taking up room..

I'd list to get a chest freezer or upright not sure yet, but this Haier LW185G looks like a nice chest freezer and very good for organizing things.

If he gets a deer I hope he can get me the whatever he can't use. I'd like the lungs, trachea, ribs, and liver, heart and whatever that is good..

Saya and her squirrel

Happy Saya
Last Saturday me and mom went to the Feast of the Hunter's Moon.

I had a good time and I got Saya a squirrel and a long string of leather for Saya to play with.

I plan to tie the leather string on the squirrel and use it for her to play with as a flirt pole toy.

Also to work on leave it with her being so excited over it.

Saya jumping for the squirrel
Saya rarely jumps with this much excitement she usually only jumps to jump over agility hurdle, over fallen trees, or jump on couches.

She really liked the smell of the squirrel too. I did some pictures of it around her neck like people do with minks.. She left it when I said leave it and she posed well.

I'm going to bite it!
I let her have fun with it for a bit and since she likes to fetch different items I tried it to see if she would fetch the squirrel and bring it to me.

Playing with it for a bit
Bring it Saya!
Saya picks it up
Saya brought the squirrel right to me!
She was cute bringing the squirrel to me too bad my camera that takes video is broken it'd been nice thing to have recorded.. I'll have to work with her fetching it I think it'd be fun to do.

Saya looks cute!
Sorry if the picture is a bit creepy. I'm not a fan of the pelts of coyotes, fox or otter..

Saya ate quail and tons of books to read

Saya looks nice outside
Today was a good day I didn't get much done choir wise I guess today was my day off being my parent's maid..

I read one of the books I got from bad dog frida.

325pages paperback 384 pages hardcover
The book I'm reading now is about herbs for pets looks worthwhile to read I only read up to 23 or 25 page it looks good so far.

Goes a bit over on how to use herbs in different ways some talk on nutrition and has info on different herbs.

Here's the link to the book the one I got was hardcopy, but I got it 20% off on the store sale so not bad the paper back might be nicer I like the hardcoppy Saya likes use it as a head rest.
Herbs for pets book

Saya focused on her quail
I enjoy the book so far it's a lot of pages I plan to read a bit of it each day and hopefully I can learn something from it.

I'm really interested in canine nutrition and learning different things on it herbs is interesting and can be used for different things.

Here's all the books I got to read

I really got a lot of books the 20% off sale was really nice so it was a bit less. Still cost a lot, but I haven't been reading much and I needed to pick up some dog books and I thought these be useful for me.

I plan to post full review on the herb book when I finish reading it. So big! I'll have to read it twice to soak in the info. hehe

It's a lot to take in I don't know much on tincture etc. or anything related to herbs for health use.

Saya met Rusty again in his crate
Saya met a two New guinea singing dogs!

She first met Rusty got bit snarky with him, so after he peed and stretched a bit he was put in the crate and Saya met him in the crate more and got to smell him more.
Second time they met she did better and even tried to get Rusty to play.

I'm so glad to meet singers in person I got to see more how their personality is like. One was very shy, the female I met was friendly she was from the Hammond rescue and she really liked my mom.

I'll upload the pictures of the three singers tomorrow.
Saya meeting Rusty a second time she was nicer this time. :3
I'm so proud of how well Saya did with them she did get bit snarky, but when I told her Saya, Come! She stopped fussing and walked a bit to me and didn't get worried about the male singer the first one she met.

She tried to initiate play with the male singer, but she was a bit shy with Saya and didn't want to rough house.

Whinchester the male we met was a bit shy with me too, but that was fine.

Her first meeting Rusty she got a bit snarky at first she did good, but then she got a bit uncomfy I guess. Once Rusty pottied and stuff he was put in his crate while one female got out to potty she was one of the Hammond rescues and she was much friendlier. I got to pet her and then I took Saya to meet Rusty again through the crate.

The female really loved my mom she warmed up quick to her and she never got that friendly to strangers before it was so cute.

Saya met Rusty and she was much calmer with meeting through the crate Rusty was happy Saya was around and was quiet when Saya was near if I walked away a bit he'd make tons of noises. lol
Saya did much better with meeting Rusty for the second time she tried to get him to play by play bowing and making her shiba noises! He wasn't into playing though and it was time for them to go because it was getting late and the singers was making lots noises.

I hope they have a safe trip.

New guinea singing dogs

Today I might get a chance to meet three singers up close and in person! Someone I know from a NGSD group is going through Lafayette Indiana so he let me know and I hope to meet him.

I love primitive type dogs like the shiba inu, Jindo, kai ken, and even the dingo and New Guinea Singers.

I'd love to have a rescued Singer one day once I have my own house and a good fenced yard. Which will be long time in my future.

I still need to get my driver's license and a job. So sad at my age I don't have a license.

Ah well I plan to get it this year and get a job somewhere I'm hoping at the dog house a dog boarding/daycare/grooming place. I really love the workers and it'd be nice to work with dogs..

Buckles would be nice place to work at too they're bit furthur from my house though so might be too much on gas to be doing everyday. Wished we still lived close to that pet store we were close enough to walk there.

They'd allow me to bring Saya to work with me which would be awesome since Saya is pretty well behaved and loves new people.

I plan to take some pictures and I'll post some on her and my experiences with the dogs.

Saya's Tasmanian devil noises or monkey noises either way.. lol

This is a video of Saya making Tasmanian devil noises or monkey noises either way.. lol

She does make noise with Bella, but she makes most noises when she plays with me she really enjoys going after my fleece glove..

Saya is pretty quiet she only barks if she wants Bella to play and Bella is being too lazy to play or she does warning barks if she sees something off in the yard or yodels when she is happy or does friendly growls.

She also makes these crazy noises when she wrestles and plays with me. lol

post coming soon

Saya all tucked in bed
I've been kinda not into posting right now been mowing the lawn, weeding, watering the plants, and raking grass. I got to go in the field and cute the brambles too they're over growing on some of the trails.

This heat has been nuts too.

I hope to get some better posts up soon maybe one on raw.

I wouldn't mind doing a review on my hare today order and my pet carnivore once I get stuff from them they're only a hour or two away from me I think..

Saya's side of the chest freezer is so full with meat, organs, and bone in meals so ordering from MPC will have to wait. I need to get my own freezer though I'll just fill mine up and then use some of my parents.. lol

Madison Wisconsin shiba inu picnic pictures

The  Madison WI shiba meet up was a success we had lots of fun. Saya played with Tesla she is from dogster she is also a pup from Hi jinx shiba inu.

She met Lucy from the shiba inu forums at first she wasn't into her barking, but I had her meet Lucy again and they got along good and played which I'm glad they did.

Saya did get bit snarky with Koshi the shikoku and Levi the shiba inu she did better with them then last year so maybe next year she'll do better with them.. She met Gin and did well Gin is pretty calm and shy so she didn't pay attention to Saya or tried to play right away so Saya liked her.

We won a basket at the raffles comes with bunch blue moon dog treats, missing link, poop bag and poop bag holder, and some bandanas. I won a shiba water bottle will be put to use once I get a job..

After the meet up we went to the dog park and had a good walk around it. I love that dog park very big much more fun then mine actually can walk with your dog and have fun..

Here's the Madison, WI shiba picnic 2011 pictures.

Stage collapse at Indianapolis Fairgrounds

Link to news article and a video of it happening.

Not sure how many people heard about this I'm sure it's been on some news channels.

This happened Yesterday and it's so sad some people did and got injured in this. =(

Such scary video of it happening.

Here in Lafayette IN we got some bad weather heavy rain and hard winds person's mailbox was bent off it's post..

Though nothing bad like this happened here.

On the 19th we were going to the Lady Antebellum concert at the same stage, but since this happened it'll be in a different area.

I hope it's not hard to find or far away or something. I got to get home after the concert to rest for our long tripe to WI for the Madison WI shiba picnic.

Saya is focused!

Not much to report

Well not much going on today Bella still recovering so she can't get too crazy or anything.

Saya has been doing great on raw.  and nothing to really report.

18 week shiba wearing afro wig

Here's some pictures I took today of Silly Saya with her Afro. =D

Gave Saya some kibble and it made for a nice picture. lol
OK Enough of that silliness. hehe
