August 4th meat haul

Saturday August 4th I went to the farmer's market and got Saya couple things, went to Asian market, and Marsh grocery store too.

I bought beef tongue and lamb ribs at the farmer's market, two packs of Pacific Saury, one pack of mackerel, and dried anchovy, I got pack of pork chops and pork shoulder roast at the grocery store it was on a decent sale and I needed pork anyways.

Everything here cost me $61.49 which I think is decent for what I got.

Weight on everything is about 289.71oz.

Lamb rib weighed 2.23lbs, beef tongue 1.69lbs, two Saury weighed18.34oz each, mackerel weighed 14.01oz, pork chops weighed 87.52oz and pork shoulder roast weighed 88.78oz. or something like that..
These fish have their heads and organs too which is a bonus they also have same fish gutted and no heads. I get these since they have extra goodies in them Saya seems like the organs too.

She sometimes eat the who fish or she'll leave the head part for another time when ever she eats it she will usually start with the tail and eat to the head or she'll eat from the stomach area then tail and head.

When she was pretty new to raw she was used to chicken, pork, beef liver and kidney I got these fish for her she was in a picky phase and it took her a while to get used to it. I mean it's much different then a piece of liver or boneless pork and so on..

She would usually lick it a lot and then just eat tiny bit and not want anymore I just bagged up and put in the freezer for next time and she eventually got the taste for it. Now she loves the fish.

She also used to not like to eat it's head for the longest time I had to put a bit of peanut butter on the head to convince her to eat the fish's head. lol

So glad she eats the head no issue.

The mackerel has it's head, but no guts it comes with two mackerel in the pack. I love how much variety the Asian market it's mostly with fish, squid, octopus, they do have pork and beef, but none of the meat is what I'd want..

The fish is sold at good prices.. $5 and some change for a pack of four pacific saury..

They also sale kimchi, dried squid, shrimp, pollock, anchovy, dried seaweed, fresh seaweed or whatever, and variety of miso, tofu, rice, and various sauces and cooking items.

I had mom get some seaweed so we can put it in the miso soup when we make it.
The soup tasted good with it in it usually we put spinach instead since normal stores don't have it.

I never new the place had it, but who knows maybe I wasn't looking good enough.

Beef tongue! I had some in the freeze, but was getting low so I got one I have plenty of heart on beef and lamb..

Not much to say on it except Saya used to not like beef tongue when she was new to raw she would lick it take a exploratory bite to see if it was good and she didn't seem to like it.

She did same with beef heart so maybe it was a texture thing plus could be because I gave her the whole beef tongue to mess with she might been overwhelmed by it's size. haha

I kept offering the tongue and heart and in snack sizes frozen she seemed to eat heart and tongue bit better frozen.

Now she eats it frozen, thawed or cooked she don't care anymore which is good.

I got lamb ribs from the farmer I usually get them from a butcher and they're usually smaller..

I forgot how much it cost for the ribs it cost me $17 for the ribs and beef tongue so maybe it was $14 or something? I dunno. I need write down price of each item next time.

I plan to try keep better track of what I buy so I can post how much I spend each month.

I cut each rib so she each gets one rib as part of a meal.. I'll give it with boneless meat or organ or something.

She loves lamb ribs. :)

One farmer at the farmer's market will have ewe soon which is nice it's an adult female sheep I believe might be wrong..

She has liver, tongue, kidneys, and heart plus ground meat of it. I'll probably get some she is selling it at a good price.

Unfortunately with this dry weather farmer's been having issues with crops which isn't good. :\

The farmer with the ewe had issue with a weasel getting into the chicken coop and killing some of the chickens and got some of the ducks too.

I hope they can weasal proof the coop..

One thing about having chickens they do bring in predators.
Saya's pork chops. :)

I got it all cut up and portioned into meal size or half meal size..

I portioned everything and put them in big ziplock bags in the freezer in a way they don't touch so once they're completely frozen I can just take one small one or big meat to thaw.
It's a bit of work, but I don't mind.

Here's a picture how I do it it took two big bags and three little bags to do it. Once it all froze completely I put all the meat in one ziplock bag.
Here's her pork shoulder roast I doesn't have skin on it like the one I got last time, but it's still nice. When I first got pork shoulder roast this is the kind I usually get sometimes it'd have tiny bit of skin on it sometimes not.

One I got that had a lot of skin was a big pork shoulder roast it didn't even fit in ziplock bags I have.. Luckily I keep the plastic bags that the farmer's use to put the veggies in when selling them. It was big enough for it..

I like the skin because it makes it harder to get to the meat and is very chewy and good for the teeth, but this pork roast provides a good work out too.
Here is the big pork shoulder roast. It was huge lasted Saya for long time.

Bite marks from Saya.

She eventually got through the skin of coarse she ate from the bottom where the meat is and worked on the skin and stuff.

People ask is it ok to feed something that has been thawed and frozen multiple times? This roast is way to big for her to eat in one or two times.. It took her long time to finish it.

I first gave her the pork roast in 10/03/2011 and her last meal of it was 5/15/2012.

I so wish I bought two of them when they had that sale.. 88cents lb is a good deal or maybe it was 99cents lb either way good deal..

Here's what it looked like after Saya grind up some bone on the jointed parts..

The meat didn't seem to go bad from thawing and refreezing no smell or anything I thawed it and fed it and put back in freeze once she was done with it.

I won't be getting anything till my chicken feet from the farmer. Hope to get lots of them.

Pork is on sale Saya is happy

I'm out of pork luckily this week grocery ad has a small sale on it. Not as great as 88cents lb pork shoulder roast, but better then nothing..

Sale is picnic roast $1.19lb and family pack pork steaks $1.99lb pork tenderloin is $3.99lbs not sure what it's normal prices are.. I'll probably just get the picnic roast and family pork steaks I hope the roast has a lot of skin on it nice and chewy..

I used up last boneless pork when Saya got back from boarding and had pork rib tips which she ate up too..

Though I don't recommend rib tips as they are small and gulpable even for a shiba.  pork ribs are better choice then rib tips.. Luckily Saya is pretty good with them. I rather lamb or pork ribs then those though.

Saya chilling on the drive way.
I sent email to farmer for Saya's chicken feet and chicken heads.. She'll let me know when she has enough for me.

I was going to get her two ducks too, but she just ran out of them so maybe next year.

That will leave room for the pork and then I hope to see if the local meat processor still sells beef trim for $1 still.. I never got it from them before some other raw feeder in the area does..

I'm not sure how much beef trim I must buy.. I do have limit since Ill have the chicken feet, heads, pork steaks and roast.. I'd like get 5lbs of it to see how it is if it's worth getting.. Beef is pretty pricey.. :\

I'm hoping they'd put trachea and beef lung with it too that would be nice.

Bizarre foods stir fry!

I made this for lunch today. It's onions, carrots, yellow squash, green peppers, celery and green beans cooked seasoned, and then cooked with 2.24oz of grass fed beef liver and 1 or 2oz of grass fed beef heart also an egg in it too.

I seasoned it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, soy sauce, Sriracha, sesame seeds, bit of Lime juice, and orange juice.

This is from Saya's food I wanted to try heart see how it taste..

It's OK I'd eat it if there was nothing around.  With all the seasonings it actually did taste pretty good. There is enough for lunch or dinner for two or three days..

I'm not huge fan of organs, but beef liver and now beef heart isn't too bad if seasoned right.

I don't like turkey liver though cooked it for training treat for Saya and it didn't taste good.

I like making odd meals and it's probably healthy too grass fed beef.. The yellow squash and green peppers came from my garden too. :)

There is a cantaloupe or watermelon growing in the front yard probably from me putting compost that wasn't  finished composting on a hole where mom removed a small tree..

Smile!
I would have used zuchinni, but the ones growing aren't big enough just yet..

I love growing stuff at the garden pulling weeds can be a pain though..

Rabbits and ground hogs too they ate all my carrots, some broccoli, and radishes.. Saya does good job keeping them off, but she can't be outside 24/7 due to heat, and night..

Ah well at least I know I can't trust dad when he plants things it's me who has to keep it weed free and stuff.. Pepper wax spray helps keeps critters off plants.

Saya's joint supplement has shipped thankfully I ordered it when I did it's now selling for $44 from same seller.. I paid $26 that's good saving!

Owner got herself a treat. :)

Saya has been much better and much more active too.

Friday 27th morning she went pottied and our cat was out so she had to pester him she thinks he likes to play so she play bows at him and makes crazy noises at him.

Coarse he doesn't like it so he either bats at her and she dodges or he runs and Saya gives chase. Crazy dog and their games of chase.

She is getting better with coming right away when I tell her to usually she'd chase him into the garage and then run back to me.
I saw a big pear that have fallen so I rolled it down the hill and Saya had a blast chasing it. I love seeing her so happy and spunky. Glad she find enjoyment out of items that I don't need to buy.

She gave it a taste too she mainly nibbled on it then got bored till I tossed it.

I got myself two video games I don't buy them often due to saving up money.

I also got Saya more green lipped mussel supplement seller was getting low so I thought I'd get it just in case they don't sell it or sell it higher.. Either way some extra supplement is good.

One game is The Last Story it's for the wii comes with a 44 page artbook and for  pre ordering it comes with soundtrack CD comes with seven tracks.

The art work looked very familiar and it came to me it's just like Drakengard one and two artwork!

Kimihiko Fujisaka does very nice artwork which I enjoy looking at it.

Music is done by Nobuo Uematsu which is cool too.

Beautiful artwork

The other game I got is Persona 4 Arena I love Shin megami tensei games they're pretty cool. I love the persona ones can't go wrong when persona 3 has a cream shiba named Koromaru! He's such a cute dog. :)

It's a fighting type game so bit different then usual persona. Still looks fun.

The game comes with a CD Not sure how many songs are on it, but either way nice to get little extra bonus.

Persona 4 Golden is coming to US which is great I don't have a psvita yet, but I'm going to buy it so when I get the system I'll have the game. No bonus yet, but who knows there might be one if not I don't mind the extra stuff added is nice enough..

The persona 3 bonus was my favorite one Saya made a cute model of it. Junpei Iori's hat a character in the game..

Anyways I cant wait to get the games to try them out.

Saya boarding stay and some vacation pic

Good news my vacation went well had lots fun hiking finding cool rocks like ones above and finding snakes and stuff I saw coyote poop on the trail and one looked like bear poop maybe..

We went kayaking which was loads of fun though due to drought the water was low in some spots so we had to get out at times to get to the deeper area it was still fun despite it I did good for first time kayaking. I hope to get one someday.

We went to hot springs can't visit Arkansas without visiting that place. We checked out the shops there was a dog place it was bit touristy mostly dog t shirts, people shirts with dogs on it or frames with dogs on it and leash collar with jewels on it not sure if fake or real..

We went to gangster museum which was interesting they talked about the activity in the hot springs and what they did there.

Arlington Hotel

Capone's prison cell

They did have some nice storm sewer manhole things. :)
The hot spring place we stayed at was nice had different pools to sit in some hotter some bit cooler. The water they gave to drink was very yummy. hehe
Arlington hotel again..
I'm done with vacation pics for now I have a few more to post later on of one of our hikes and a bunch of carp..

Anyways we got back home and picked up the dogs the next day from the boarding place in the morning.

Me and mom isn't impressed with things like last time. I don't know if they're understaffed and didn't do things like last time, but the dog bed and blanket was full of hair smelly..
bath always feel good when your dirty

Dogs were smelly too and Saya doesn't usually smell at all even after she been digging in the dirt she doesn't smell too badly. Bella she doesn't smell much either except when she has gone for a swim or rolled into something.

Bella our boxer was skinny not sure how much weight she lost, but she looked how she looked as a young dog could see her ribs, spine, and hip a bit more. She is pretty lean dog as it is, but I dunno we left instructions and she got same amount of food she gets usual.. Maybe the stress of being boarded got to her.

Though last time she was boarded with Dink she did fine didn't loose weight though she wasn't hypothyroid at that time.. Though they had her meds and gave right amount each day so it shouldn't been issue..

Saya was a bit lethargic, and had a cough she might had slight case of kennel cough Bella had same cough, but wasn't as often.. Both dogs had the vaccine, but coarse it doesn't totally protects a dog.

Poor Saya had mucous in her poop not sure why it's cleared up after four days back at home. I gave her bit extra bone in meals that week then usual. Chicken drumstick and pork rib tip.

She was on premade nature's variety raw lamb kind she had it before and had it for week and half before she went to be boarded so not sure why the bad poop. Maybe could be stress related or could be way the staff fed her maybe the kept the food in the fridge instead of the freeze like I told them.

They really need put online cams for boarding like they do for daycare..

Anyways I'm glad she is back to normal now though it was sad seeing her so lethargic. She also had some plaque build up guess because she was on pre made raw for an week or so..

I'm not fan of pre made I love the whole raw kind nothing like giving her a chicken drumstick or lamb ribs or boneless duck yummy.

I'm not against pre made raw, but it's not for Saya..
August well be going to the Madison WI shiba picnic which will be nice. Mom will need to rent a car for it because her car needs some work on it and no way we are driving that much in dad's truck it has no ac..

Anyways I'm ordering some chicken feet from this farmer who raises chicken, turkey, pigs and ducks free range not in any cages or sheds..

I'll probably get a duck roaster or whatever it's called from her maybe two for a unique type of food. Saya already gets boneless duck.. I might see if the lady doesn't mind leaving my two duck whole with organs, feathers and head..  I hope she doesn't mind it.

I'm also getting chicken heads from her too.. I'm still figuring out how much to get right now..

When fall comes before she stops selling I plan stock up so it'll last through the winter.

Feeding whole duck, and chicken heads? Gross! haha

Saya really loves her whole prey items though she loves whole prey quail her favorite meal.

It is bit gross feed the stuff, but I feel it's good for the dog and coarse in the wild they'd eat the head they wouldn't just eat everything except the head..

That type of stuff is considered by product, but since I know how the chicken and duck was raised I don't feel it is bad.. I mean these birds are free ranged on the grass following you around not cooped in a cage or shed and the place doesn't stink like usual chicken farms. :)

I'm hoping to buy ton of deer heart and liver from the farmer's market in Madison WI I only go up there once year so nice to get goodies from there for the dogs.

First time boarding.

Saya will be boarded for the first time we are going to Ozarks Arkansas for vacation sadly the place doesn't allow dogs. :\

She and Bella will be boarded at The dog house of Lafayette a dog boarding, daycare, grooming type place and only place that sells fromm dog food and cat food.. They also have locally made leather leashes, collars, treats, and some toys.

Bella boarded there when we went to Louisiana Saya came with us because she is relatively well behaved and more socialized. Bella is getting better with being good with company now she has had more visitors.

Dink boarded there too our 15 year old catahoula mix she was having hard time with arthritis and we hated to leave and have her boarded, but couldn't trust anyone in family to properly take care of the dogs last time it was disaster Dink had accidents because they didn't let her out at proper times..

The staff did well with Dink gave her right meds and washed the blanket when she peed on it due to her incontinence. They took them on walks and Bella I could tell she got exercised so that's good.

I know when she hasn't she is horribly hyper and annoying she needs good run once a day and one or two walks depends on weather.

Saya exploring.
One good thing about the place they do raw and have fridge/freezer for that type of stuff and they had shiba before being boarded.

They will also seperate the dogs during feeding time if there is issue with resource guarding which is good especially since Saya takes a bit to eat her food. Though she will be eating pre made raw which she can eat faster thawed I feed it frozen helps slow her down.

I got her pre made lamb food luckily had coupon month ago so that was nice..

8 baggies to put each days food in. We will be gone for 7days, but I figure it'd be good for her to have extra day never know with traffic if we'll be delayed.. coarse I don't think a day on kibble would hurt her and if it gave her issue I'd just have to buy her some bone in chicken and have her on bland meal till she is good..

I figure pre made would be easier for the staff to feed then tossing chicken drumstick, liver in one bag, boneless meat in other, tongue and heart and drumstick and kidney etc.. haha

she loves lamb so I got that she also has bison pre made which she liked, but I mainly been giving as a quick snack to have.

I don't really give pre made except for boarding since it can get pricey and I much rather fresh whole raw then it.

Coarse if your worried about food being nutritionally balance pre made is good type raw to feed.. Though I'd give a chicken drumstick, pork rib, lamb ribs and stuff like that to give more chewing actions..

The pre made is all bagged up! two rectangle blocks for each day.

Each block weighs like 3 oz maybe bit more two together is about 6oz or bit more that's about what she gets a day..

I fed her the pre made bison for whole week and she did fine no yucky poo and she kept weight on fine.

I hope she does well during boarding she has met the staff during times we went to get fromm when I had a coupon or for a visit and she loved the workers so that's good.

The place has tvs on animal planet so that is nice. The dogs don't seem to bark like past places which is good. Our last three dogs were so hoarse from all the barking..

Wasn't fun for them. hehe
