Fun at the creek

February 17 me, Saya, mom, and Bella went on walk together. Day before was nice, but she wasn't feeling good luckily next day she felt better.

It was chilly 18F in am then got to 20sF or so. Bella needs jacket in cold temps being she is a boxer. The cold doesn't seem to bother her that much compared to couple years ago maybe because she is used to it now who knows..
Bella is getting better with off leash so she gets some off leash time. She still isn't 100%, but she's getting better.

Saya does great off leash of coarse. I try keep things successful and walk during times there is less deer activity and rabbit too if I have Bella off leashing it.

Saya does pretty good coming back after chasing a rabbit, but Bella she still is working on coming back under such distractions.

This walk was mainly for fun.
Saya loves to climb fallen trees low ones or very high ones she climbed the branch that is going up a few times it's bit higher then me.
Coarse we saw some feet prints of various animals like raccoon, deer, squirrel, and even goose or some type of bird.

Saya spots a leaf! She loves chasing leaves in snow, wind, and even in water this one was stuck in the sand. She put her head in the water that didn't work so she walked off a bit then came back and pawed it.
Bobbing for leaf
Maybe pawing at it will help
Success!
Icing up in some spots.
Bella had a ton of fun zooming around. Saya did too she mainly explored areas.
Bella paw print
!
Saya did get some freedom she dragged her leash, but still was able to run around and explore things and she came when called and stuck near the area.
Saya paw print
Saya really wanted to chase floating ice, but she knew the water was a bit deep she'd have to swim to get to it. So she just watched as it floated by. She didn't mind walking in the water, but not swimming.

I think I agree 19F seems a bit chilly to put her whole body in the water though her fur is pretty water proof takes long time to get her wet during a bath.

What Saya investigated Bella sometime had check it out. She was like did you find anything interesting?

Bella didn't mind getting her feet wet either. She has less fur on her feet compared to Saya.

Saya came when called and sometimes Bella thought Saya come meant Both dogs come. haha

I gave her treat too Bella coming to me is a good thing. :)

Why walk through the water when you can jump like super shiba! hehe

I love it when I get lucky and get a nice un blurred action shot like this.

Saya exploring a bit. I relaxed and let her then called her since it almost time to head home.

Saya checking this out
I don't think shiba inu make good breed for off leash work. Things are different and they can be pretty impulsive and not listen to you especially if they see a deer, rabbit, leaf, bag blowing in wind, cat or who knows what.

Shiba inu has breed is good about selective hearing.. Plus they have shibatude..

Saya loves getting on trees.. This creek can flood when snow melts or when we get a lot of rain or combo of both.. This time is is nice and low. During a bad flood time it had gotten up to this fallen tree just the top of the tree was exposed which Saya had to walk across it.

I don't take many hike pictures since my only camera is cheapo phone or my nice camera..

I don't want to risk breaking the camera so I rather keep it home, but it would be nice to capture some fun walks or of Saya chasing a rabbit and pictures of animal prints..

I plan to get a nice water proof and more compact camera sometime.
Right now I'd like to get a decent dehydrator and maybe a dog freezer.. That would be nice instead of sharing a freeze.
Once I got closer to my woods I unleashed Saya and we headed to the field to finish our walk.

Vibram five finger spryridon shoes
Winter has been crazy we haven't had much snow lately just light accumulation.

Hard to see this is a flock of cranes flying by. Their noise is distinct so I knew it was them.

Saya spotted or heard something so she sped up a bit.

It could been a rabbit or maybe bird I didn't hear or see anything I told her come on lets go and said Saya come and she stopped and headed with me to the trail by the pond.

Frozen pond.. It takes a long time of cold to get fully frozen even then I don't feel safe getting on it. I can tell where the springs are flowing into the pond as there is usually signs of it.

I've seen rabbit, coyotes and even deer tracks on the pond few years ago.

As soon as we got to the yard she lay right down to rest.

While Saya was resting I head to the lane to check for cans to collect sometimes people toss them so I get them to later take in for small amount of money.

The white and black dog is my neighbor's dog he used to visit us and get pets, but since his golden retriever companion died he no longer roams much out of his yard.

He's nice dog you don't mess with him he doesn't mess with you.

I walk the dogs past and he is fine with it no charging or lunging at us. I hate rude mean dogs like that.

Saya investigating the compost wood area.. Neighbor's cat for some reason like to hang here so she probably smells it.
Saya extremely clean no sand or dirt on her. I love shiba breed so self cleaning..

Yesterday Saya was digging at a mole hill in the woods and her face gotten so dirty. She was clean when we got home her paws too.

Nothing feels more good then a sun bath after a nice hike. :)

Synchronize sun bathing time.

Adam and dog

I love movies with dogs, books, and so on so when I saw this I really enjoyed it.

I love short animated films and this is one of my favorites now.

Bella is getting low on her current kibble so I've been transitioning her to the Totw so far so good she's doing good on the small amount she getting. Luckily she isn't a picky dog and she seems to enjoy her new kibble.

She and Saya have been enjoying the cold. Well Saya enjoys it more Bella needs jacket in order to enjoy it.

made caned food mix

Four weeks or so ago I made a caned food mix. Got the wet dog food and had caned pumpkin and mackerel so I mixed the three caned items and few other things to extend it.

The mix made four weeks worth of kibble topper for Bella Saya got it as a yummy snack.
I cooked some parsley and ground it once it was done.

Then I got three ground deer patties, chicken hearts, two pieces beef heart, and two beef kidneys
Mixed the caned stuff and parsley. yummy.
Cooked four eggs then once cooked I ground the eggs up and tossed the shells into the compost bucket.
Finished product also added a bit of blueberries in it too. Saya and Bella love blueberries.

Saya and Bella loved the stuff.

Taste of the wild boar kibble

Rubbing on the couch feels so good!
I recently got Taste of the wild boar formula.

Ingredients:Beef, chickpeas, peas, lamb meal, egg product, canola oil, wild boar, pea protein, fish meal, brewers yeast, tomato pomace, flaxseed, natural flavor, salt, choline chloride, dried chicory root, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, yucca schidigera extract, dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation product, dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, niacin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin D supplement, folic acid

Protein: 29% Minimum, Fat: 15% Minimum
Calcium: 1.9%, as-fed; Phosphorus: 1.1%, as-fed
Calories: 3,600 kcal/kg (360 kcal/cup) Calculated Metabolizable Energy

Ingredients looks OK sadly Boar is seventh on the ingredients. chickpeas is second on list, peas third and four meat type ingredients five if you include egg products.

I thought I'd try it since it's something different just got 14lb bag of it.

Bella still has her wellness core ocean so once that is close to finishing I'll start transitioning onto the new kibble.

Due to money mom needs cut back till we get some stuff paid off due to various events not saying what.. This is my dog blog not life event blog.

I think the kibble is OK doesn't list what kind of fish they use in fish meal, but all of them seem to be like that.

I'll have to give them a email or call and ask what kind of fish do they use.

Bella gets other things with her meals most times. Either a egg, caned dog food, caned fish, caned pumpkin or mix of all four items as kibble topper.

I give her honest kitchen as a kibble topper sometimes and she gets raw meal once or four times a week as dinner instead of kibble.

Bella loves chicken quarters, cornish hens, and lamb ribs. She also gets boneless stuff, liver, gizzards and heart with meal usually one or tiny bit of each with the bone in item. Yummy.
I'd love to more raw for her, but for now one to four times a week is enough.

Once I get low enough with food in the freeze I plan to organize it a bit so I can have a spot for just Bella's food and Saya's food so I can keep it organized. Chest freezers are nice, but takes some work getting things in order. upright probably be my type of freezer, but I share with parent's right now.

Weather is going to be in the 30s and 40s so I took the other groundhog out and I plan to get it prepped when it's thawed. That way it's done with. I prefer to handle it in 30s or 40 as not too cold, but cold enough to keep the wasps and flies at bay..

I'll probably switch the the Totw duck or deer/bison or lamb kibble once done with the boar, but I thought it'd be interesting to try. Bella and Saya like the taste gave them a piece as a treat.

more on The honest kitchen

Saya loves to fetch items here she got me a bag of coffee I sat somewhere for her to get.

Saya still eats prey model raw, but I do give The honest kitchen dog food:love formula.

She gets is mainly as a snack, or small meal or part of her days meal. I sometimes add things in like a egg mixed with it or caned fish, caned pumpkin or mix of all three or two..
yummy dog soup.. hehe Saya enjoys honest kitchen she has had the turkey one as a sample and liked it.

I got the Love formula as I liked it's ingredients the turkey one was good to.

Saya has no food allergies that I know of so I guess either one would be good to feed.

Saya has had no stomach issue with it and seems digest it fine.

I plan to try the zeal next once the love formula is done with.

Saya loves fish so I'm sure she'll enjoy it.

I don't give it because I think her raw diet is lacking, but mainly to have on hand for emergency, or if say I go camping for few days or whatever the food would be fed instead of raw. Just add water and let sit for a bit then feed..

I plan to get a 2lb bag of ziwipeak for training treats and ziwipeak can be fed as a meal too..

So combo of honest kitchen and ziwipeak would be nice for camping and stuff like that..

Also I feel having this dehydrated food is good to have in case something happens and power goes out for long time you know a blizzard, tornado or whatever.

I would feed kibble if needed, but I like the honest kitchen food and ziwipeak over kibble.

Saya has had ziwipeak for a bit and enjoyed it.

Both foods are pretty pricey though, but since Saya is small it lasts her decent amount plus she is only getting it as a snack or small meal so it lasts even longer.

I do give it to Bella as a yummy kibble topper and she loves it.

I sometimes even give her half kibble and a bit more of the honest kitchen.

I prefer raw more as it gives Saya a nice workout while kibble, honest kitchen or ziwipeak she eats those more faster.

Unless she is eating liver she eats that really fast.

At least with ziwipeak I can just put a days meal in a zip lock and use as training treats instead of feeding it in a bowl so she works for her breakfast and dinner..

I plan to check some recipe from the honest kitchen cook book and make something soon. Salmon recipe in it looks yummy.
