Made a ton of dog treats!

I spent a long time making this a lot of cooking, mixing, grinding and stuff.

I made a total of 7.36lbs of treats the weight includes the big ziplock and little ziplocks, but still a good bit of yummy dog treats!

I use usual fish fudge recipe and added few things to it to make it my own as usual..

I added about 4 or 5 eggs, three cans sardines, one caned tuna, the flour, and some oatmeal too.

I cooked beef, chicken and lamb liver, beef and lamb kidney, three things of beef thymus, two pieces of beef heart, tiny piece of beef tongue, chicken hearts.

I also cooked some boneless pork and then ground it and added it to the eggs and flour, I used coconut oil to cook the meat..

I then cooked the three small zip lock bags of cooked turkey it was frozen so I needed thaw it out before grinding it.
Few days ago I picked some yellow squash along with zucchini for us people.
I cooked the yellow squash along with bag of carrots, some green peppers, little bit of zucchini then once really soft I grind the veggies up.

With the yellow squash I only ground the middle part as the skin was really hard and I took the seeds out and cooked them with some seasonings on a cookie sheet in the oven they tasted pretty good liked baked pumpkin seeds. hehe

I also mixed in a caned of normal pumpkin not pumpkin pie kind. I thought It'd be fitting since Halloween is near plus the dogs like pumpkin.

I cooked the first batch and put the rest in containers to cook the next day.
Bella had gone with me to get the squash she took one so she had a yummy chew item. haha
I plan to check out this one dehydrator at this one place will make dehydrating hearts and boneless meat for treats easier..

And before the farmer's market closes I hope to get some more beef heart, tongue, liver, and kidneys too.

At the moment the freeze is full with the new treats added to it.

Luckily by then there should be room between Saya eating her normal meals and Bella getting her raw treats.
I like the fish fudge or well fish and meat treats they can be broken into small bits if I want to and don't smell too bad despite the organs in it..

This batch has some veggies and fruits in it which I think is good especially since they came from my garden well except for the caned pumpkin, but still..

The addition of the fruit and veggies made the batch bigger I did add a good bit of meat to it so it isn't all veggies or fruit.

Saya and Bella really enjoy the taste of these treats with the fruit and veggies or just the fish and meat.

I usually use the fish fudge for recall treat sometimes they get little bit of hot dogs, string cheese, or dehydrated chicken heart for recall treats both Saya and Bella loves it.

Made dog treats

I recently ran out of dog treats so Tuesday night I made some more.

I didn't put any cooked ground fruit or veggies this time.

I had cooked a 4oz boneless pork 4 2.24oz of liver some was beef some chicken, some chicken heart.

I then mixed 1 mackerel, 2 cans of tuna 4cans of sardines with the canning water.in a large mixing bowl and added seven eggs to it. I probably overdid it on the eggs 4 probably been enough for what I did.

I then ground the cooked meat and mixed with the fish and eggs then cooked 4 bags of cooked turkey not sure how much it weighed probably 4 oz or so.

I used coconut oil to cook the meat can use any kind oil you prefer olive or whatever..

I also added table spoon of melted coconut oil to the mix too for extra flavor.

turkey cooked

pork and organs mixed with the caned fish and eggs
Once thawed and stuff I ground the turkey meat and then mixed with the fish, eggs, and meat mix.
Turkey meat and organs are all ground up and mixed.
I added a cup of oats and a cup of wheat flour can use any other kind of flour if need to. coconut flour is one I plan to try next time I run out of the treats..

I also put 1 clove of crushed garlic in it it's optional though

Here's what they look like when done this was from another time I made them, but they look same except no fruit or veggies in it.

I spread the mix on a greased cookie sheet I just used pam on it. and cook on 350F for 30 minutes then cut them into square shapes or whatever shape you want to make them.

cook for 5 more minutes and then should be done..

Here's the original recipe I found online..
2 small tins tuna in water OR 1 large can salmon in
water
2 eggs
1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
1.5 cups flour (all purpose, whole wheat, and oat all
work well)

Put fish (with canning water), eggs, and garlic in a
blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into bowl and add
flour, mix well. Press into a greased 9x9 baking dish
and bake at 350F for half hour. Half way through baking,
cut into squares and continue baking. When done, allow
to cool, remove from pan and break into pre cut squares.
Store in the fridge in an airtight container.

Recall videos and mole digging..

Videos are taken from my 3ds so not greatest quality video better then nothing since I don't really have video camera.
First video she was in the side of the house as usual walking around the brush..

Second come video.. As you can see the backyard is nice size. no fence too.

This is the area where wild cottontail rabbits hang out. none were there so I recalled her.

We checked the garden for anything and I saw mole evidence.. :( I told her to dig for them so she did.

She didn't found any though. Saya does love digging for them though.

This video is my favorite one she turned very quickly to come. :)

Last video

Yesterday she did a mini shiba 500 outside crazy! Wish I had 3ds with me at that time. She did came when I called her then I told her to go and have fun. hehe

Shiba inu as a breed isn't good breed for off leash work due to their prey drive, independence, and stubbornness.

I dunno why Saya does good maybe growing up with Bella helped since Bella was good influence on her and did good off leash.
Maybe it's being in the country and having good bit of land to practice on or she is good personality for it. I dunno.

I use fish fudge, dehydrated chicken hearts, string cheese or dehydrated fish and once in while hot dog bits for her recall treat.

Fish fudge is yummy to dogs I did add bit more fish then what recipe says.. I do a mix of caned mackerel, salmon and sardines I also add things like sweet potatoes, pumpkin or cooked ground liver, cooked ground turkey meat or just the fish..

It's bit squishier then a dog biscuit. I had cook it bit more with the extra fish or if I add meat or liver to it..
Here's the recipe

2 small tins tuna in water OR 1 large can salmon in
water
2 eggs
1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
1.5 cups flour (all purpose, whole wheat, and oat all
work well)

Put fish (with canning water), eggs, and garlic in a
blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into bowl and add
flour, mix well. Press into a greased 9x9 baking dish
and bake at 350F for half hour. Half way through baking,
cut into squares and continue baking. When done, allow
to cool, remove from pan and break into pre cut squares.
Store in the fridge in an airtight container.

If you add anything like sweet potatoes or pumpkin or meat add extra flour or oats.

I did flour and oats..

Saya's treats

Saya loves food and loves treats I've gotten various kinds to try with her on which she likes best.

Her favorites are wellness core ocean kibble, string cheese, cooked meat, cooked liver, dehydrated liver or meat, and various home made dog treats and store bought treats.

Saya loves the Natural Balance food rolls. Sliced into circles I can tear off a bit easily. Only issue you need to use it up or it goes bad coarse most treats do that, but these go bad sooner. I only gotten small one since these are just for treats not as diet or kibble topper..

I only gotten it once to try it Saya seems like it and no issues with stomach or anything.

Ingredients: Beef Lungs, Wheat Flour, Sugar, Beef Kidney, Wheat Bran, Beef, Beef Spleen, Beef Fat, Salt, Rice Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Egg, Glycerin, Lecithin, Dicalcium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Natural Smoke Flavor, Ascorbic Acid, Natural Flavor, Powdered Garlic, Vitamin E Supplement, Kelp Meal, Brewers Yeast, Calcium Disodium, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Rosemary Extract, Canola Oil, Sodium Erythorbate, Vitamin A Supplement, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Sodium Nitrite, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Natural Mixed Tocopherols.

Ingredient wise I like it has beef lungs, kidneys, spleen yummy. Salt I'm not fan of, but since it's just a treat I don't see it as an issue.
I rotate between all the treats so she doesn't get a lot each day or anything.
Saya also really like these treats tripe & liver patties you get 5 patties for 4.99 and they can be easily broken into smaller bits for training.

I usually give for recall training for this or if she needs bath she gets a half piece for getting a bath.

They have also turkey and pork patties.

Ingredients of tripe and liver: Beef Tripe, Beef Liver, Potato, Mixed Tocopherols, Rosemary Extract

Ingredient wise I like it Saya has no issues with potatoes so I don't mind them.

Ziwi peak
I also use Ziwi peak dog food as a training treat too I don't use their treats I just got the dog food Saya loves it.

Right now I got two free samples I got to try it's the deer formula. I plan to buy a bag once I'm almost out.

Ingredient wise I like it and the pieces are small and can be broken even more too.

Saya is eager to open the bag for me.
Ingredients Venison - Meat     57% Venison - Liver, Lung, Tripe, Heart and Kidney     34%
Green-lipped Mussel     3%
Lecithin, Chicory Inulin, Kelp, Parsley, naturally preserved with mixed tocopherols.
Vitamins: Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Thiamine Hydrochloride
Minerals: Iron amino acid complex, Copper amino acid complex, Manganese amino acid complex, Zinc amino acid complex, Selenium Yeast, Potassium Bicarbonate, Calcium Carbonate

I love the ingredients and it has liver, lung, tripe, heart and kidneys! Yummy! Well Saya thinks Yummy. hehe

Close up of the food

Only down side of Ziwi peak it's expensive compared to dry, dehydrated, kibble, or home made treats.

Saya doesn't go through the bag too fast so I think it'd be worth buying it as a treat to use for training especially since I like it's ingredients.

I always say to avoid meat that is enhanced with broth, solution, salt due to extra salt can cause loose poop.

If by chance you accidentally bought some you can cook the meat and organs and make yummy kibble topper or training treat.

I wouldn't do with marinated kinds due to all the ingredients in a marinade, but kind that's been cooked in solution I don't think it hurt anything.

Either boil it or bake the chicken and cut into stripes and freeze for later to give as kibble topper, training, or as an ingredient in home made treat.

I did that once I got a big turkey for free it was enhanced, but I took it anyways I thawed it out then boiled the meat, liver and gizzards once all cooked I cut into strips or small cubes.

I then put bit of cooked meat into small zip lock bags and then put the small zip lock bags into big zip lock bags so all I need to do is take a bag out and use for training, or say I'm making fish fudge or dog biscuits and I want to add bit of meat to it besides caned fish or liver I'll put a bag into the mix or give a half bag to Bella on top of her kibble and other half next day etc.

If your dog is allergic to cooked chicken or turkey then this wouldn't be an option.. Some dogs are allergic to cooked, but not raw, but some are allergic to both or sensitive either way.
Go slow either way with any new treats don't want to give too much when the dog isn't used to it.

I'm lucky Saya has a pretty good iron stomach and handles things well.

Even so when she was new to raw I omitted all dog treats from her diet till she was used to at least two proteins and organs then I slowly added one treat back at a time to be safe. She once had loose poop when she got too much kibble, but now she does just fine. I think I rushed too fast at that time.

That's it for now I hope your spring is going well. I've been busy with working in the yard and planting grass seed and stuff. Saya my helper helps me by keeping me on my toes. hehe

Home made dog treats

Saya taste testing home made treats
I made some dog treats I followed recipe my mom got from her mom did some modifications due to corn meal and added bit more meat then required.

They turned out good and made a lot. Saya and Bella really liked them.

Cookie my mom made in Christmas time it's fancy with bone shape.. It's peanut butter flavor

Peanut butter ones my mom made.

Recipe is 1 cup wheat flour, 1 cup corn meal(I add oatmeal instead you could just do two cups of wheat flour or something else besides cornmeal if you like Rice flour or whatever as long as it's OK for dogs and your dog isn't allergic.)

1 egg, 3 table spoons of olive oil, 2/1/2 table spoon of parsley(Not needed if you don't have it the ones mom made didn't have parsley), 1/4th garlic(not needed if you don't like to use it)

2/3 cup of chicken stock be sure it's kind that doesn't have onions in it.. Can use beef stock too make your own too or buy it.

Slowly mix and add 1/2 cup of cooked liver or peanut butter can also do cooked boneless chicken, pork or beef grind it up so it mix well.

roll 1/2 inch thin

Bake at 350 for 20minutes might need cook bit more if it's thicker.

Finished cookie black thing is a bit of blueberry
This is the cookie I made I cut into squares and they break apart easily or can be fed whole.

All together is has pork, turkey, turkey liver, pork liver, beef liver, beef heart, parsley, one and half cooked egg and one raw, caned tuna, caned sardines, caned salmon and, bit of caned oysters also has some cooked veggies ground up veggies(broccoli, bit romane lettuce, bell peppers, spinach, and green beans.)
I used wheat flour and oats for the dry ingredient and did bit extra oats since was low on wheat flour and had extra ingredients like the meat, caned fish, and veggies.

boneless pork chops, turkey liver, pork liver, beef heart and a bit of beef liver
Here's how much meat I did 8 or so oz of boneless pork, one pork liver, one turkey liver, liver is 2.24oz each, tiny bit of beef liver, 4 or 6oz of beef heart all cut up.

pork cooking first and cut up so it cooked faster. I used olive oil to cook it in.

Pork, liver, heart all cooking. I actually tasted a bit of the cooked heart not bad reminds me of beef liver. grass fed beef heart! Rawr!

Some cooked blended parsley and two bags of cooked chopped up turkey meat, liver, gizzard, and heart each bag has like 3 or 4 oz of meat I think.

The turkey I got free with my craigs list ad for free meat.

It was enhanced so I cooked it up and chopped it up for training treats, kibble topper, or to make home made treats with.

This is a mix of cooked veggies(spinach, tiny bit of broccoli, green beans, bell peppers, and carrots) one and half boiled egg, little bit of banana, pear, and little bit of caned oysters.

I also added two caned sardines into both portions and put half can of salmon in Saya and Bella and half can of tuna in Saya and Bella's portions.

I had also put some oats in it and cooked it in the microwave. yummy. haha

I made this for Bella and Saya few days before deciding to make dog treats so I thought I'd add Saya's portion to the treat mix since her's was smaller portion and Bella got her's as a kibble topper.

Everything almost done turkey added in parsley, and then I added bit of water to cook it in to make a broth.

I then ground the cooked liver, heart, pork, and turkey in the grinder I already added the wheat flour and olive oil on the bottom.
Flour, oil, meat mix and veggie and caned fish mix was mixed into it all and a bit of the oats.
Broth that was left from cooking I added bit more water to it then added it to the mix.

Saya sticking around the kitchen to sample to raw batter. Like a kid wanted to eat cake batter.. haha
She loved it.

Mix has everything broth, egg and rest of the oats mixed in.

Spread onto the cookie sheet. I added some blue berries to it too I mashed it up and mixed it in the mix.

I made this batch bit thicker so I cooked it bit extra also didn't grease it enough so next batch I did better these turned out fine just some crumbs stuck to the cookie sheet so I put it into Bella's dog bowl she ate it with her kibble.

Pieces of finished treat the white bits are crushed eggshell. This isn't required. I added it into the veggie and caned fish mix when I thought I was giving it to Saya and Bella as a snack..

I don't think it'd hurt Saya and Bella has had egg shells before with no issues.

Next time I'll be sure to not add them if the stuff is going to be used for dog treats.

I bagged them up in small zip lock bags and then stacked them in a big zip lock to freeze them for later use.

Second batch done and cut up. There was little bit left so I made third batch of cookies too.

How they look from sides they're easy to break into bits or given in big pieces either way.

All the treats bagged up and stacked. Once they were done freezing I took them into the basement in the chest freezer.

Since they got meat in them I froze them. If I want train with them I take a baggie out or take a few treats and train.

Peanut butter ones would probably do fine out freezer unless you make a big batch then you can freeze it.
